Sometimes when you're sitting around and relaxing you come up with thoughts or ideas by seeing things around you. Today was one of those days for me. I was in the bedroom showroom and was just casually looking around at the various beds and mattresses and thought "how do you decide on the right platform bed?" There are just so many to choose from. Most of us don't have this thought on a daily basis, but when you work around furniture little questions like these pop in from time to time. So, here is my list of what I believe to be the 5 most important factors in choosing your new
platform bed.
1.) What materials should your new platform bed be made from? There are a variety of materials that beds can be made from. The two most popular though are wood or metal. Wood platform beds can range in materials such as oak, alder, maple, cherry, rubberwood or pine. Wood beds can be more traditional in appearance but in recent years have become more modern. Metal platform beds are made from steel and present a more industrial look to your bedroom.
2.) What size platform bed are you looking for? The #1 seller in beds is queen size followed by the #2 seller king size. These are the most common sizes out there but maybe you're shopping for a teenager or young adult who can't fit these beds in their room. If that's the case consider extra long size beds. Extra long or XL as they are often referred to come in the same length as a queen or king bed but are offered in standard twin or full size widths. Great for smaller rooms!
3.) What matching furniture will you need? Matching
bedroom furniture such as nightstands, dressers, chests and mirrors are often referred to as case goods. Case goods provide you with a place to store clothing, bedding or anything else you can think of. When figuring out new bedroom furniture it's a good idea to consider your current closet storage and then determine what casegoods may be needed to help accommodate all of your belongings.
4.) Determine your price range. The first thing to figure out when shopping for a new platform bed is determining the price range you can afford. There are platform beds that are $300 all the way up to beds that are $10,000. Finding the quality you want at the price you can afford can be accomplished however. Speak to a qualified sales associate who can walk you through the different products and tell you the pros and cons to help find what you're looking for.
5.) Is your platform bed a stocked item or will it need to be made? When choosing a new platform bed consider too the lead time it will take to receive your new bed. There are many beds that are stocked for quick delivery. However many of the higher end products are bench built and made to order. These can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on the manufacturer. The advantage though is custom made platform beds will be available in many more color choices versus stock beds which will be offered usually in just a few choices.
Thinking about these things ahead of time should make your purchasing decision easier. Much like buying a new car or home, we don't typically buy furniture often so when it comes time give some thought to what you need in a new platform bed as well as matching case goods to help with any of your storage needs.
